By Ray Hamill — It was a good night for the Redwood Empire Little League all-stars on Tuesday.
At McKinleyville, the 11s defeated the host team 13-3 in their district championship game, while at Arcata the 8-9-10s defeated their host team 13-9 to reach the championship round.
The 11s, who won all three of their games at the tournament, took control early in the championship showdown, scoring three runs in the first inning.
After adding a fourth in the second, they pulled away with six more runs in the third to lead 10-0.
They will now head to Yuba City for the section tournament, which gets under way on July 17.
The RELL 10s, meanwhile, avoided elimination for the third straight day with their victory over Arcata.
The clutch victory sets up a rematch with McKinleyville on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
The RELL bats have been firing in their last few games, with the team scoring 31 runs in three days.
However, they will have their hands full against a talented Mack team that has scored 30 runs in two games at the tournament, including a 19-2 win over Arcata on Monday.
If RELL wins on Wednesday, the two teams will meet again in a winner-takes-all showdown on Thursday night.
If McKinleyville wins on Wednesday, they will be crowned district champions.
