By Ray Hamill — The Big 4 teams will play each other twice each in football this coming fall, as the schedules were recently finalized.
After a shortened spring season, all four conference teams will return to a full 10-game regular season, beginning in late August.
The fall will also see the return of the North Coast Section and CIF State playoffs, with the regular season running through Nov. 7 and the postseason kicking off a week later.
The Big 4 schedule will expand from three weeks to six, with Del Norte, Eureka, Fortuna and St. Bernard’s playing each other both home and away.
The conference schedule kicks off on Oct. 1 when Eureka travels to Fortuna in a rematch of this past spring’s epic season finale, which the Loggers edged in overtime.
The following day, Del Norte travels to St. Bernard’s.
The schedule runs for six consecutive weeks, with two games each weekend, and closes out on the weekend of Nov. 6/7, with Eureka playing at Del Norte and Fortuna at St. Bernard’s.
Other notable games scheduled for the fall include the annual Milk Can showdown between the Ferndale Wildcats and Huskies at Fortuna in week two (Sept. 3), as well as matchups for St Bernard’s against Arcata (Sept. 11) and Ferndale (Sept. 18).
The Loggers open with four challenging games against non-league opponents.
They host Foothill on opening weekend, followed by a trip to Windsor, a home game against Ukiah and a trip to Shasta.

The Eureka Loggers open the fall season against Foothill.
