By Ray Hamill — Eureka sophomore Myles Standish turned some heads locally with his performances on the mound this past spring, and now he’s turning them at a national level.
Standish is one of four H-DNL players competing this month at the USA Baseball National Team Championships in Arizona, turning in a big performance on the second day of 16U competition on Wednesday.
The Loggers lefty was named Pitcher of the Day at the 16U tournament after throwing four hitless innings against some of the best young players in the country.
The Humboldt County native struck out eight and led his team, CCB National, to a 7-0 win over Legacy Baseball Group Gold.
He established himself immediately, striking out four of the first five batters he faced.
Later in the day, he also had a walk and scored a run in an 11-3 victory against USA Prime American.
Standish is one of three local players competing in Arizona this week, along with Eureka teammate Rogan Bode and Fortuna’s Cole Ayala.
Arcata’s Cedar Cline will also be in action at the 15U National Team Championships in two weeks.
