VIDEO — Strong local presence a big plus for Corsairs

By Ray Hamill — College of the Redwoods football coach Jason White says he expects to have the largest group of local players he’s ever coached at CR when the team returns in the fall of 2022.

On Saturday, White unveiled his first group of local recruits, with 19 H-DNL players showing up on campus to sign their letters of intent to play for the team.

White was hired six weeks ago after previously coaching with the team for a decade in the 1990s and early 2000s.

And he expects a bigger local presence on the roster than he’s ever seen before.

“We’re going to have over 40 I think, so that will be the biggest local group I’ve ever coached at College of the Redwoods,” he said. “And I’m excited about that.”

He added that he believes a strong local presence on the team will create more interest and will be the foundation for success.

“In the 10 years that I was here previously, every year that we were successful we had a solid base of local kids that were like starters for us, and you had a good mix between out-of-the-area and local kids,” he said. “And that’s what we’re going to strive to do again.”
