Kelly holds his nerve to complete big night for the Huskies


Fortuna’s Jaden Kelly came up clutch at the end of Thursday’s H-DNL boys basketball game against St. Bernard’s, draining two free throw attempts with nine seconds remaining to seal a 56-55 win.

The season-opening victory capped a big night for the Huskies, who swept all three games, with their freshmen and JVs also winning.

Bo Cox led the Fortuna varsity team with 22 points, while Branson Gans added nine points and 13 rebounds.

Matt Berti also had a big game, finishing with eight points and six steals, while the clutch Kelly added eight points.

Earlier in the night, the Fortuna JVs defeated St. Bernard’s 60-47 and the freshmen beat Del Norte 68-46.

St. Bernard’s, which opened the season with a win against McKinleyville on Tuesday, is now 1-1.
