The Arcata Tigers improved to 2-0 in H-DNL boys basketball with a 74-56 win over Ferndale on Thursday night, setting up a big clash at Del Norte this weekend.

Once again the Tigers got big contributions from several players, including Mason Railsback, who scored a team-high 16 points.

Brandon Bento-Jackson added 12 points, while Kai Purcell and Marcus Bensen each had nine.

The Tigers, who opened the season with a victory over Eureka on Tuesday, came storming out of the gates against Ferndale, scoring 32 first-quarter points to lead by 22 going into the second.

The Wildcats, who dropped to 0-2, were led by the ever-dangerous Emmitt Albee who finished with a game-high 19 points.

Jack Westfall added nine points for the Cats, while Javier Lopez and Jenner Christiansen each had eight and Garrett Christiansen six.

Carson Tucker also scored seven points for Arcata, while Alex Jioras had six.

Next up, the Tigers will renew their rivalry with Del Norte when the two teams meet in Crescent City on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Del Norte, which edged Arcata for the league title and Dick Niclai championship last season, are also 2-0 after the opening week.
