VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS — Boys 3200m race goes down to the wire

By Ray Hamill — The rivalry lived up to the billing.

Seniors Collin Stockwell of Fortuna and Ian Bennett of Eureka have battled back and forth for much of their careers in both cross country and track, and Saturday’s final ever prep race between the two was the most exciting of the day at the H-DNL championships.

After Stockwell had won the 1600m and Bennett had won the 800m, the two standouts battled neck and neck for the entire race in the 3200m.

Stockwell had a slight lead heading into the final stretch, but Bennett quickly closed the gap and almost snuck the win.

Stockwell crossed the line in 10 minutes 29.01 seconds, with Bennett timing a 10:29.28.
