A stellar senior season in baseball came to an end for Kokko Figueiredo on Saturday, as North Carolina Central lost in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship game.
Figueiredo, a former Fortuna High and College of the Redwoods standout, played just one season at the D-I level, but made it count with an outstanding campaign in which he led his team in batting average.
On Saturday, however, the Eagles fell to Norfolk State 7-6 in 11 innings to end their season.
Figueiredo was 2-for-5 in the loss, his team’s second one-run loss to Norfolk in two days.
Figueiredo came into the playoffs batting a team-best .346.
During the regular season he also led the team in RBIs with 34 and had eight doubles and five home runs.
