Big day for Turner, but Corsairs fall in extra innings

McKenna Turner hit a three-run home run for College of the Redwoods in game one of a softball doubleheader against Feather River in Redding on Thursday, but the Corsairs would fall 7-6 in extra innings.

Turner’s blast gave the Corsairs a five-run lead in the top of the fourth, but the Feather River women would chip away at the lead, tying things up in the bottom of the seventh to force the extra innings.

Both teams would add a run in the ninth, before the Golden Eagles went on to plate the winning run in the bottom of the 10th.

The Corsairs also dropped game two of the doubleheader, 11-2 in five innings, and are now 4-10 on the season.

Turner had a big day at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with five RBIs in the opener, as CR out-hit Feather River 14-8.

Samantha Caughie was 2-for-4 with a double, while Makayla Bernald, Juliana Ortega-Miranda, and Nas-Che-Wen Hunsucker each also had two hits.

Jaycee Morais, Grace Rosebrook and Karyn Jensen rounded out the 14 hits.

Jensen stepped up again in game two, finishing 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Morais was 2-for-2 and Rhea McCoy 1-for-2.

Ortega-Miranda and Kylee Dewey took the losses in the pitcher’s circle.

The Corsairs play a makeup game against Butte on Friday.
