The Eureka girls improved to 9-0 in H-DNL softball on Wednesday, with a 10-3 win over visiting Fortuna at Washington School.
The Huskies scored three times in the first, but Eureka senior pitcher Alexa Morehouse shut them out after that with the help of some error-free defense from her teammates.
Morehouse struck out seven in six innings, before Kira Morris came in to relieve her and struck out the side to seal the win.
The senior starter rose to the occasion, getting key strikeouts, pop-ups or groundouts every time the Huskies seemed to threaten.
She got plenty of offensive help, in particular from sophomore Claire Maples, who was 4-for-4, with a triple, an RBI, two stolen bases and three runs.
Maeghan Hampton and Wyatt Thurston each added two hits in the win, while Morris, Salina Socha-Wright, Kaitlin Giacone and Mariah Napoleon each also had a hit.
For Fortuna, Zoe Dewberry had a big day at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a triple, a double and two RBIs, while Renee Metz was 2-for-4.
Kelsi Hall also had a triple.
Libby Johnston took the loss in the circle, striking out seven in four innings, while allowing 10 hits against a dangerous Eureka lineup.
The Huskies, however, struggled defensively at times.
With the loss, Fortuna is now 4-5.
