The Eureka Loggers continued to impress in H-DNL baseball on Saturday with some outstanding pitching.
Seniors Ethan Pesch and Hayden Bode and junior Jackson Giacone all combined to shut out the Del Norte Warriors and hold them to just three hits over the two games, as the Loggers won 1-0 and 10-0 in five innings.
Pesch got the win in the opener, in what was a hard-fought pitchers’ duel against Del Norte sophomore Brody Mattz.
Pesch allowed just two hits in six innings, while striking out five and walking one.
Mattz was every bit as impressive against a potent Eureka lineup, allowing just four hits and one walk in seven innings and striking out four.
Giacone got the save, holding the Warriors hitless in the seventh and striking out two.
Keenan Morris scored the Loggers’ only run in the top of the fourth.
Morris, Giacone, Parker Rodgers and Connor Johnson each had a hit in the win, while Jared Dixon and Ethan Thomas had the Warriors’ two hits.
Bode was just as impressive on the mound in game two, holding the Del Norte bats to just one hit in the five innings.
The Eureka senior struck out seven, and had plenty of offensive help.
Morris capped a big day with two more hits and three RBIs, as did Rodgers, who was 2-for-4 with four RBIs.
Brayden Youkey and Myles Standish both also had two hits in the win, as well as a run and an RBI each, while Giacone scored twice.
Dixon continued to be a bright spot for Del Norte, finishing with the team’s only hit of the game.
With the win, the Loggers improved to 7-0, while Del Norte is now 2-7.
Next up on Wednesday, Del Norte is scheduled to host Arcata, while the Loggers will host Fortuna.
