By Ray Hamill — A young McKinleyville Panthers softball team is maturing quickly.

On Saturday, the Mack girls extended their winning streak to six straight with a doubleheader sweep of Arcata at McKinleyville, winning 14-0 and 7-0.

The pitching was one of the stories of the day, with McKinleyville’s Allie Egbert and Raina Ausburn combining to hold the Tigers scoreless and to just four hits all day.

Egbert got the win in the opener, allowing two hits in five innings, with two walks and four strikeouts, while Ausburn struck out 12 in seven innings in the nightcap, allowing just two hits and three walks.

At the plate, the dynamic sophomore duo of Camryn Pinard and Trinity Preston continued to light it up.

Pinard followed last weekend’s eight-hit performance with seven hits in the lead-off spot, including a triple and two doubles.

The red-hot Preston, meanwhile, hit a home run in each game, giving her five in her last six games.
