By Ray Hamill — The new spotters tower is in place and final preparations are complete as the Redwood Acres Raceway prepares for Saturday’s season opening event.

A few tickets are still available, but must be purchased online at before midnight on Friday.

The first of 11 nights of racing this season will feature five divisions, with the Roadrunners, Mini Stocks, Bombers, Legends and Late Models all scheduled.

The action gets under way at 5:30 p.m., with gates opening at 4.

It will be the first time spectators are permitted since the end of the 2019 season, with all of last year’s races held behind closed doors because of the pandemic.

And it will be the first chance for many to see the new state-of-the-art scoreboard, which was installed early last summer.

Among the changes at the track this season, a new spotters tower has been added, while no food lines will be permitted with vendors moving throughout the grandstands selling food, beer, wine, popcorn, candy and soft drinks.

This season, the local raceway has also attained INEX sanctioning for the Legends division, which will allow all participants to compete in the national points series.

According to its website, INEX is the third-largest racing sanctioning body behind NASCAR and International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) with more than 3,500 members, and it annually sanctions more than 2,500 races at more than 300 different tracks throughout the world.

Including the Redwood Acres Raceway.
