Owen Lien leads strong Corsairs performance at Shasta meet

CR’s Owen Lien posted a season-best time of 50.79 seconds in the men’s 400 meters on Saturday, on his way to a first-placed finish at Shasta College.

The former McKinleyville Panther was one of several Corsairs to impress at the meet, as both College of the Redwoods track and field teams continued their fast start to the new season.

In the  women sprints Brianna Green was a triple winner, finishing first in the 100m, the 200 and the 400m, while setting a PR in the 100m with a time of 12.21. 

Arcata’s Liberty Kujawa-Seda placed second in both the 200m and the 400m.  

Kyle Byrne meanwhile, continued to dominate conference opposition in the middle distance events, placing first in both the the men’s 800m and 1500m.

A trio of CR women also had a good day in the middle distance races,

Maggie Stacy of Fortuna and Hailey Hopkins placed first and second, respectively, in the women’s 1500m.

Stacy also placed third in the 800m, one spot behind Kristin Bonomini in second, with Hopkins fourth.

Lien also placed seventh in the men’s 100m, and fourth in the 300m, while Tyric Washington had a pair of seconds on the day, in both the high jump and long jump.

In the throwing events, Hoopa’s Arianna Kartaltepe continued to show improvement, placing second in the hammer and third in the shot put with new personal best marks in both events. 

Alexee Kline set a PR on her way to a fourth-place finish in the hammer, as well as placing fourth in the discus and seventh in the shot put.

Kathy Wright rounded out a good day for the CR women in the throwing events, placing sixth in the hammer and 11th in the shot put.
