The Eureka Loggers ended a long drought on Saturday, defeating Arcata 1-0 in H-DNL boys soccer for the first time in 11 years.
Jesus Parra capped a brilliant season with the winning goal, scored from the penalty spot.
“We were unlucky not to win by a bigger score,” head coach Eddie Garcia said. “Arcata defended well, but we dominated possession and kept that shutout.”
The win was the fourth straight for the Loggers, who closed out the season 6-4 and were one of the most improved teams over the last five weeks.
“It was a great way to end the season,” Garcia said. “The boys kept getting better and better as the season progressed. I’m really proud of all them.”
The Loggers will graduate four seniors, Josh Manson, Jesus Parra, Ian Bennett and Jesse Bravo.
For Arcata, Matias Severn had a strong performance in midfield, as did right back Everett Naman, who has showed a lot of promise this season.
