COLLEGE BASEBALL — Fischel homers in weekend series split

By Ray Hamill — Locals Ethan Fischel and Kokko Figueiredo each hit successfully in three of four games over the weekend, as their respective teams split four-game series in college baseball.

Figueiredo, who plays D-I ball for North Carolina Central, has started all 18 games this season for the 10-8 Eagles, and is batting .246 with 14 RBIs and four doubles.

The former Fortuna High and College of the Redwoods standout also has driven in six runs in his last five games, including four in a weekend series against North Carolina A&T.

The Eagles play three games against Richmond this weekend.

Fischel, meanwhile, also had a big weekend, hitting successfully in three of four games for D-III Willamette.

The Bearcats split four games with Pacific Lutheran, with Fischel finishing 2-for-4 in one of the games, with a home run, a double and three RBIs.

The junior has started all 16 games for the 10-6 Bearcats, batting .235 with two home runs, three doubles and 12 RBIs.

Fischel is a former Eureka Logger.
