By Ray Hamill — Forgive the Eureka Loggers if they’re not sure who to prepare for this weekend.
For the second time in just four days, the Loggers have had their opening opponent changed, as the H-DNL scrambles to compete in what are very unusual times.
On Thursday morning, the South Fork Cubs were forced to pull out of their weekend game against Arcata after a player tested positive.
Arcata will now play Eureka instead (at Fortuna High) on Saturday night, and the Fortuna B team will have a bye.
South Fork is the third H-DNL team forced to cancel its opener for COVID related concerns, joining Hoopa and Del Norte.
The league, however, continues to do a good job quickly finding ways to make things work as best it can in the circumstances.
Eureka had been scheduled to open against St. Bernard’s, but that was switched to Fortuna B last weekend after Del Norte was forced to cancel, before changing again on Thursday.
The Del Norte and Eureka JVs will still play each other as planned on Saturday night, with the game also at Fortuna before the varsity showdown.
