Top Tigers continue to impress early in new season

Arcata’s top four girls continued their fast start to the new H-DNL tennis season on Tuesday, as the Tigers got the better of North Coast Prep by a score of 5-2.

At No. 1 singles, Keona Gutierrez took care of business against Thea Lamers by a score of 6-1, 6-0, while teammate Aimee Reiner defeated Alex Ruggs, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles.

Also winning for Arcata, Kyra Alway defeated Ruby Devoe, 6-0, 6-1, and Melanie Luh defeated Ella McCurley, 6-0, 6-0.

The top four Arcata players are each now 2-0 on the season and have not dropped a set through the opening two matches.

Eva Devoe and Zoe Osborn each won their matches for North Coast Prep.

Devoe defeated Jasmine McKnight, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5 singles, while Osborn beat Astreya McKnight, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6.

Arcata took the No. 7 singles match by forfeit.

The Tigers are now 2-0 and will host St. Bernard’s on Saturday morning at 10, while North Coast Prep plays at Eureka.
