By Ray Hamill — Kokko Figueiredo’s Division-I baseball career is off and running.
The former Fortuna and College of the Redwoods standout made his debut with North Carolina Central University this past weekend and has started in all four games so far.
The Eagles are 3-1, including a three-game sweep over Army and a loss on Tuesday at Longwood.
Figueiredo scored a pair of runs in each of the opening two games, and finished 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI in game two.
Through four games he is batting .200 with a couple of walks.
The Fortuna High graduate transferred to the D-I school in December after Cal State Monterey Bay was forced to cancel its season for the second straight year.
Figeuriedo also enjoyed two big seasons at CR, as well as playing two summers for the Humboldt Crabs.
He says he hopes to be back with the Crabs for one more summer if he is not drafted in June.
Next up for Figueiredo and the Eagles is a doubleheader vs Norfolk on Saturday.
