By Ray Hamill — Hailey Dolcini pitched a pair of wins last weekend to give the Fresno State Bulldogs their first two victories of the season in softball after they started out 0-3.
The former H-DNL star struck out 10 batters in a 9-0 win over Pacific in game one of a doubleheader, while allowing just three hits in five innings work.
According to the Fresno State school newspaper, The Collegian, she retired the first 11 batters she faced, including nine strikeouts.
Dolcini returned in game two to help secure a 4-3 win, retiring the final eight Pacific batters.
The Bulldogs have struggled offensively through a tough early schedule and came into the doubleheader averaging just .149 at the plate.
The Fresno State women are now 3-5 on the season, having played three games against top-10 opposition, including their season opener against No. 1 UCLA.
After struggling against the Bruins in that opener, Dolcini has impressed in the circle, allowing just two earned runs in her last 14.2 innings, and giving up just three hits in seven innings in a 2-1 loss to No. 10 Oregon in her most recent outing on Sunday.
The 2017 Fortuna graduate is 2-3 and has an ERA of 3.05 through five appearances.
The Bulldogs play a pair of games against both Sac State and Long Beach State at their own Fresno State Invitational this weekend.
