McKinleyville senior Isabella Sundberg topped the field for the third time in as many weeks on Wednesday, in the latest round of H-DNL girls golf.
Sundberg shot a season-best 83 at the Eureka Municipal Golf Course and solidified her lead at the top of the season standings.
The Mack standout, who shot a 40 on the back nine, came into the season as the league favorite and she has more than lived up to that billing with three rounds in the 80s so far.
That consistency has Sundberg well ahead at the top of the season standings, where she leads the field by a remarkable 21 strokes.
Arcata’s Mari Pepper was second best on the day for the second straight week, shooting an 87, just four strokes off the pace and also a season best.
Pepper, who is now second in the season standings, led the way on another strong Arcata team performance, as the Tigers shot a 383 total, 54 strokes better than their previous season best and 90 better than the rest of the field.
Fortuna’s Gracie Betts shot a 90 for the third best individual score of the day, lifting her into a tie for third in the season standings with Arcata’s Kate Plumley, who shot a 91.
An impressive seven girls in total shot under 100, including three Tigers.
Rounding out the top-10 individual scores on the day were Arcata’s Brook Bisgrove (94), Eureka’s Marissa Highley (98), McKinleyville’s Sofie Sundberg (99), Del Norte’s Molly Slayton (102), Arcata’s Kyra Always (111) and Eureka’s Gracie Christian (112)
Madelyn Shanahan led the way for the St. Bernard’s girls with a 121.
The H-DNL girls will be back in action next Monday at Baywood Golf and Country Club, before closing out the short season at Beau Pre Golf Course the following week.
