By Ray Hamill — Former Arcata standout Kaylie McCracken got the new season off to a flying start at Whitman College last weekend, leading the Blues to a pair of wins over Pacific Lutheran in women’s basketball.
The junior forward was instrumental in both wins, scoring 40 points and nailing 18-of-31 field goal attempts.
For her efforts, McCracken was named Northwest Conference Women’s Basketball Student Athlete of the Week.
Whitman won the games, 76-61 and 81-74.
The former Arcata standout scored a career-high 24 points in the second game, shooting 10-for-14 from the floor, after scoring 16 in the opener.
She also added 11 rebounds over the two games, as well five assists and no turnovers.
McCracken graduated Arcata in 2018 and has enjoyed plenty of success at the college level, playing for the Division-III Blues.
She appeared in 29 games as a sophomore, earning an all-conference honorable mention selection after finishing second in the Northwest Conference in field goal percentage (53.7) and third on the Blues with 11.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
The Blues play a pair of games this weekend at home to Puget Sound.
