By Ray Hamill — The California Interscholastic Federation issued a statement this week addressing a potential return to competition later this month.
The state high school sports governing body is asking people to continue to follow all protocols so the student athletes can get back to competing.
“We implore all Californians to wear a mask, practice social distancing, limit mixing between households, and practice all basic hygiene,” the statement read. “This is the way to ensure the best chance for CIF competition to commence by Jan. 25, as allowed by the guidance from the California Department of Public Health.”
In the midst of the pandemic and a continued spike in cases here in California, last month state health officials released updated guidelines for youth sports, announcing Jan. 25 as the earliest possible return date for competition.
The California Department Public Health said that date would be re-addressed by Jan. 4, but officials have issued no updates this week.
The CIF, meanwhile, appears to be still planning on a Jan. 25 return.
The H-DNL will hold multiple meetings this month to discuss the options.
