Humboldt State lends a hand in championship season

By Ray Hamill — Humboldt State may not have a football team, but the Jacks played their part in an historic season nonetheless.

On Saturday, San Jose State won a first-ever Mountain West title by beating Boise State 34-20, a championship the Spartans would not have managed without the help of Humboldt State.

It was the Jacks who came to the Spartans rescue earlier this year when they allowed the San Jose players hold their preseason camp at the Redwood Bowl when they were unable to do so in San Jose.

And the Spartans clearly appreciated the help, honoring Humboldt State with a “H” decal on their helmets all season long, including during Saturday’s championship game.

The Spartans improved to 7-0 with the win and are ranked No. 19 in the latest AP poll.

  1. Ray, I believe that the Spartan players had a smal “H” on the bak of their helemets to honor HSU!
