By Ray Hamill — The H-DNL schedule will be on the agenda at this week’s North Coast Section meeting.
In August the league voted to hold three shortened sports seasons this school year from December through June instead of the state-wide two-season format, which would have resulted in a very busy spring for some local student athletes and forced many of them to choose one sport over another.
The NCS, however, must approve the H-DNL schedule at Friday morning’s Board of Managers Meeting, as it is expected to do.
The H-DNL also has been meeting recently to piece together the framework for an all-local schedule for the majority of its sports, including football, which is expected to get under way in late January.
Once the league gets approval from the section, the coaches can begin finalizing their schedules.
Under this format, only wrestling and the traditional spring sports would qualify for the NCS and state postseason tournaments.
The league’s wrestling teams will be allowed to travel out of the area for competition, as well any of the traditional spring sports that make the postseason.
