Dustin Walters paced the field in the opening round of the Upstate Bombers Series at a hot Redwood Acres Raceway on Saturday afternoon.

Walters took the lead midway through the 50-lap feature and was able to hold a solid advantage after that on the way to the checkered flag.

Brenton Smith was second, followed by Loren Powers, Charlie Tour and Donnie Brown.

The race was the first of two this summer in the Upstate Bombers Series, with a second event scheduled to take place at the Ukiah Speedway in early September.

Three other divisions were also in action on Saturday, as the hot temperatures made for a slick racing surface which made traction difficult and handling a premium for drivers.

Bryan Brandt continued his fast start to the 2020 season with a second straight main event victory in the Roadrunners division and has now placed in the top two in all three races this season.

Nick Ford was second, followed by Joseph Brown, JR Brandt and Daniel Buell.

Derek Copeland took first in the Legends main event, followed across the line by the consistent Dane Nissen, who had his third top-two finish in three races this summer.

David Dunlap finished third, followed by James Nicoles in fourth.

In the Mini Stocks, Gary Klientobe maintained his impressive start to the season with a first main event victory, holding off CJ Dalton in second.

Klientobe has steadily improved this season, moving from third to second to first in the three main events.

Eric O’Ferrall was third, followed by Allison McCarthy and Brian Murrell.

Racing action returns to the Redwood Acres on  August 29.
