Racing returns to the Redwood Acres Raceway this weekend, with the third event of the season, which will include the first of two races this summer for the Upstate Bombers Series.

The series is in its second year of competition and included 50 cars in 2019, also competing at the Shasta and Ukiah speedways.

Saturday’s racing action will also include the Roadrunners, Mini Stocks and Legends, with the Late Models taking a week off.

Vern’s Furniture will sponsor the weekend action, which gets under way at 3 p.m. and will once again be held without fans in attendance with the racing streamed live online through the speedway’s Facebook page.

It has been an exciting and wide-open start to the season locally, with two different main event winners in each division in each of the first two events.

That, coupled with the shortened season due to COVID-19, could make for some very open points races this summer.

Early winners include Brett Murrell and Jarrett Mayo (Mini Stocks); Brandon White and Loren Powers, Jr. (Bombers); Chris Lawrence and Dane Nissen (Legends); David Miller and Luke Hall (Late Models); and Jeremiah Martin and Bryan Brandt (Roadrunners).

A second Upstate Bombers Series race will be held in Ukiah in September.

A test and tune is also scheduled for Friday from 3 to 8 p.m.
