By Ray Hamill — The Humboldt Eagles 19Us will take to the road for the third straight weekend when they travel to Oregon to play three doubleheaders beginning on Friday.

And it should be a competitive road trip for the local all-star American Legion roster, with some quality opposition lined up.

The Eagles open against the Ole Athletics in Eugene on Friday evening at 5:30 p.m., followed immediately by a showdown with the Eugene Challengers at 7:30.

They complete a three-game series with the Challengers with a second doubleheader in Eugene on Saturday, beginning at 5 p.m.

And that will give them the opportunity to avenge an earlier 5-3 loss to the Challengers, one of just four defeats on the summer for the Eagles (23-4).

The Eagles also have previously played the Athletics, getting the better of them 9-0.

The Eagles close out a busy weekend with a third doubleheader on Sunday, playing the Portland Lumberjacks in Eugene at 10 a.m. and at Grants Pass that evening at 5:30 p.m.

Head coach Matt Tomlin certainly has the pitching depth at his disposal for a busy few days, with a wealth of talented arms to call on.

On Friday Lane Thrap will get the start against the Athletics, with Caleb Ruiz taking the mound against the Challengers.

Branson Gans and Merek Sears will start on Saturday, with Nick Dugan and CJ Van Meter starting on Sunday.

Expect to see plenty of Hayden Bode and Bode Joyner out of the bull pen as well.
