By Ray Hamill — Former Arcata standout Vanessa Holland was recently named to the California Collegiate Athletic Association Winter All-Academic team.

Holland, who will be a senior at Chico State this fall, has enjoyed plenty of success with the Wildcats, both on and off the basketball court.

This is her second winter all-academic award and her fourth overall all-academic award.

According to the Chico State web site, Holland is majoring in public health and plans a career in nursing.

This past season, Holland played a major role off the bench for the Wildcats, who qualified for the CCAA tournament.

She was third on the team with 24 3-pointers, hitting on 34 percent of her attempts.

The former Arcata standout, who graduated in 2017, was named MVP of the Big 5 three times and led the Tigers to four straight league titles.
