By Ray Hamill — Seniors Danika Scott and Anthony Slayton have been named the Del Norte High Athletes of the Year after outstanding years for both.
The two outgoing seniors, who will graduate Friday night, are each multiple sport standouts who will be taking their careers to the collegiate level.
Slayton played an integral role in both football and basketball for the Warriors.
He was named co-Defensive MVP of the Little 4 in football and helped the school win a first-ever North Coast Section championship on the way to a state bowl game.
He was also all-league in basketball on a Warriors team that claimed a Big 5 and Dick Niclai double.
Slayton will play football at Shasta College next year.
Scott, meanwhile, was just as impressive, winning a league title in both tennis and wrestling.
It was in the latter where she really made a name for herself, pinning one of the top wrestlers in the nation on the way to an NCS title and an appearance at the state meet.
Scott will wrestle at Southwestern Oregon Community College after graduation.
Each of them received a $250 scholarship with the award and a lifetime athletic pass for the school.
