Bear River fight night on hold, but not canceled

Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – Austin Mitchell, left, has been a popular fighter at the Bear River Casino fights.

By Ray Hamill — April’s Bear River Casino fight night not surprisingly has been postponed, but event promoter Brian Wilson of Hard Fought Productions is hoping this will be only a minor setback.

Wilson, who has been promoting the very popular fight nights at the casino for the past few years, is hoping many of the fighters lined up for the April 18 event will still be able to compete a few weeks later, or whenever they might be able to reschedule.

“Right now we really don’t know. All sports are kind of at a standstill,” Wilson said.

Del Norte’s Austin Mitchell was scheduled to headline the event in his second pro fight, and Wilson says that’s still a possibility, with absolutely no timeline in regard to rescheduling.

The event could be held in May or June or July, with the following scheduled fight night at the casino not until August.

Another immediate concern is how soon the fighters would be ready to compete after the lockdown, with all the gyms in the area currently closed and training limited.

The Cosce brothers, meanwhile, have been busy preparing for their next fights, whenever that might be.

Louis and Orion, who are each 6-0 as pro fighters, are expected to have a big year.
