Loggers suspend sports until April 17

By Ray Hamill — Eureka High School sports have been shut down until April 20, it was announced on Sunday evening.

The Eureka City Schools Board held an emergency meeting on Sunday and made the decision to shut down the city’s schools for the next four weeks.

With spring break scheduled to begin on April 13, that will extend the closure to five weeks.

Eureka High Athletic Director Kristie Christiansen said there will be no sporting activities during the closure, including practice.

Earlier in the day, St. Bernard’s suspended all sports indefinitely, while both Arcata and McKinleyville announced on Sunday evening that both schools have canceled all sports for at least two weeks.

Del Norte sports have also been put on hold until April 10, while South Fork and Hoopa have suspended all sports for at least two weeks.
