The Arcata football community is asking for help for the family of one of their players.

A gofundme page has been set up for the family of junior Everett Halikas, who was rushed to UCSF on Wednesday and has been diagnosed with acute viral encephalitis.

The disease is anacute inflammation (swelling) of the brain usually resulting from either a viral infection or due to the body’s own immune system mistakenly attacking brain tissue, according to Medical News Today.

The gofundme page was set up by Halikas’ football family and friends, who are seeking “donations to help pay his family’s bills and expenses and to eventually be able to bring Everett back home.”

Halikas, a dynamic running back for the Tigers, was immediately place on life support at UCSF.
