By Ray Hamill — We asked you which teams you thought were going to prevail in this week’s Dick Niclai tournaments, and the results show two teams are overwhelming favorites.

In the boys tournament, a whopping 68 percent of North Coast sports fans who responded to our poll say Big 5 champions Del Norte will win this week.

Not surprising really when you consider the Warriors are 20-1 on the season and were unbeaten in conference play.

The Arcata Tigers, who opened Niclai play with a 70-59 overtime win over Eureka on Monday night, are second favorites, pulling in 10.4 percent of the votes cast, with St. Bernard’s third with 8.3 percent.

In the girls tournament, Big 5 champion Fortuna is also heavily favored among North Coast sports fans, pulling in 48.2 percent of the votes.

The St. Bernard’s girls, who have won three straight games against Big 5 opponents, are second favorites with 24.1 percent of the votes.

The McKinleyville girls, who only qualified for the tournament with a 58-39 win at Arcata on Monday night, are third favorites, with 12.5 percent of the votes, followed by Eureka with 8.9 percent.
