Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – The Mack girls were all smiles on their way to a big win at home to Del Norte on Friday night.

By Ray Hamill — The Arcata Tigers could host a boys and girls Dick Niclai doubleheader in basketball on Monday, if the girls team wins at Del Norte on Saturday night.

With a three-way tie for third place in the final Big 5 standings, the Arcata, Del Norte and McKinleyville girls must now play a three-team, two-game playoff to see which of them receives the No. 3 seed and final spot for the league tournament.

Arcata and Del Norte will play in the first of the two playoffs games, with the Warriors hosting because of their 2-0 head-to-head record in league play against the Tigers.

The winner of that game will then play McKinleyville on Monday, with the venue again being decided by head-to-head records.

If the Arcata girls win they will host because of their 2-0 record against the Panthers, whereas if the Del Norte girls win they will travel to McKinleyville courtesy of the Panthers’ 2-0 record against them in league play.

On Friday night it was announced that game would take place at McKinleyville, but the H-DNL clarified the situation on Saturday morning.

If the game is played at Arcata it will begin at 6 p.m. immediately before the first-round boys game between the No. 2 Tigers and the No. 3 Eureka Loggers.

If the game is played at McKinleyville, it will tip off at 7 p.m.

The winner of the three-team playoff will advance to play at No. 2 Eureka on Tuesday night.

If that’s either the Warriors or Tigers, it will be their fourth game in five days.
