By Ray Hamill — Omar Banuelos sent the Del Norte players and fans into a frenzy on Tuesday night, after nailing a championship-clinching 3-pointer at Arcata High.
The basket capped a dramatic comeback by the visiting Warriors and gave them a sensational 50-48 win and a first outright conference championship for the program since 2008.
And if there was one player the Warriors wanted taking that shot, it was Banuelos.
“That last possession, what can I say,” an emotional Del Norte head coach Marc Slayton said afterwards. “He’s one of the premier players in our league. He’s been our go-to guy, and never more than tonight.”
