VIDEO — Fourth-quarter highlights from Tuesday’s thrilling game

Ray Hamill/ – Del Norte’s Kaleb Price looks to set up a play on Tuesday night.

By Ray Hamill — What a night it was for Del Norte basketball, and what a year it’s been for Warriors sports.

On Tuesday, the Del Norte boys knocked off their closest rivals in the Big 5, winning 50-48 at Arcata and clinching the conference championship in the process.

It’s the program’s second title in three years and a third in the past decade, but it was the Warriors’ first outright since the 2007/08 season.

And what a way to seal the deal, with senior guard Omar Banuelos nailing a league-clinching 3-pointer in the dying seconds for the come-from-behind win, in a game in which Del Norte trailed almost the entire time.

It was a highly-entertaining game, with the best two teams on the North Coast this season living up to the billing.

Don’t be surprised to see these two local heavyweights face off again in next week’s Dick Niclai tournament, and perhaps even in the North Coast Section playoffs.

The Warriors are currently ranked No. 4 among Division-IV teams in the NCS, with Arcata just three spots back.

Check out some of the fourth-quarter highlights here, as the Warriors clawed their way back into the game.
