The St. Bernard’s girls secured the Little 4 girls basketball championship outright on Friday night, defeating the Ferndale Wildcats 63-30 in Eureka.
The championship is the seventh straight for the Crusaders and sixth straight outright, as they improved to 5-0 in conference play.
“I would like to especially recognize our six seniors,” head coach Mark Gardner said of Marayah Tomlinson, Mackenzie Finck, Verissa Moon, Shelby Jordan, Josie Peterson and Amelia Francis. “Tonight belonged to them. Our girls played hard for those six seniors and they played hard for each other.
“Most of those girls I’ve had for three years and I’m very grateful and feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to coach them.”
All six had a say in the league-clinching win.
Jordan scored a game-high 13 points, while Peterson had 10, Finck seven and Tomlinson six.
Fa’apisa Fonoti also had a big game with 11 points, while Saulele Tanuvasa added seven.
Halie Short and Macey Sutherland each scored seven points for the Cats, who dropped to 2-3 in the Little 4.
Mady Beddow chipped in six points for Ferndale.
