HSU’s Turner named CCAA player of the week

Humboldt State senior Tyra Turner has been named California Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 21.5 points, 7.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals in two wins last week.

HSU’s ended a four-game losing skid with victories over Cal State East Bay (82-78) and Cal State Monterey Bay (81-55).

The point guard shot 50 percent from the field (18-for-36), and scored a season-high 23 points in Thursday’s win.

This is the third time this season that an HSU player has been named conference player of the week, with Alexia Thrower twice earning the award.

The Jacks are 7-7 in conference and 11-8 overall.

This week, the HSU women travel south to play at UC San Diego on Thursday and at Cal State San Marcos on Saturday.
