HSU women top CS East Bay; men lose

The Humboldt State women’s basketball team ended a four-game losing skid after getting the better of Cal State East Bay by a score of 82-78 at Lumberjack Arena on Thursday.

Alexia Thrower scored a team-high 25 points in the win, while teammate Tyra Turner added a season-high 23 points, as well as eight assists.

Molly Dixon also had a big night for the Jacks, scoring 14, while Madeline Hatch added 10 points.

With the win, the Lumberjacks improved to 6-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings and 10-8 overall.

The HSU men, meanwhile, fell 85-74 to the same school, also at Lumberjack Arena.

Zachariah Christian had 20 points and eight rebounds for the Jacks, who fell to 3-10 in conference and 7-11 overall.

HSU led by six at halftime, but was outscored 47-30 after the interval.

Robert Lewis added 15 points and five assists in the loss, while Leland Green scored 12.

Both HSU teams will be back in action on Saturday when they welcome CS Monterey Bay to Lumberjack Arena, with the women tipping off at 5:30 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m.
