By Ray Hamill — Longtime local MMA fans will have the opportunity to welcome back an old friend this Saturday night at the Bear River Casino fight night.
Chris Roman, one of the original members of the Lost Boys gym in Arcata, will fight in one of the five pro fights on the card, matching up against Victor Rico in a 145-pound showdown.
“He has a great following up here in this area,” fight promoter and Lost Boys owner Brian Wilson said of Roman, who now fights out of Las Vegas.
Roman got his start in the sport here in Humboldt County before leaving the area a few years back.
He is 3-3 as a pro, while Rico comes in with a record of 1-4.
Also on the card, former Hoopa High wrestler Orion Cosce will try to stretch his pro record to 6-0 when he fights the experienced Wally Wester at 170 pounds in the main event.
Cosce, who will likely be making his final appearance here in Humboldt County, is one of five local pro fighters, who remarkably are a combined 18-0 as professionals.
Also on Saturday’s card are brothers Jacob and Robert Hodge out of Hoopa.
And as usual, Wilson is expecting a big crowd.
“As always, we’re on pace to have a sellout,” the Hard Fought Productions promoter said. “1,000 seats every time.”
