By Ray Hamill — The Humboldt State men’s rugby team will be hosting a unique event in a few weeks, when the Jacks welcome Cal Maritime to the Redwood Bowl for a Friday night showdown under the lights.

The HSU club team, which competes in the National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO), is in its 46th season and typically fields a pretty competitive team.

This year hopes are as high as ever, as the Lumberjacks get set for Northern California College Rugby Conference, where they are the defending league champions.

The Jacks are scheduled to play four home games this season, kicking off against Santa Rosa JC on February 8, with additional games against Cal Maritime A, Cal Maritime B and Sierra JC.

The Lumberjacks usually play their home games at College Creek Field, but the two games against Cal Maritime will be played on back-to-back days at the Redwood Bowl, including a Friday night showdown on February 21.

Game time is set for 6 p.m. and there will be no admission.
