By Ray Hamill — Senior center Charlotte Carroll was one of the many heroes for the Huskies on Thursday night, as the Fortuna girls pulled out a dramatic 52-45 win over league rivals Eureka in the biggest game of the season so far here on the North Coast.
Carroll scored 14 points in the win, her team’s 10th straight, and was inspirational in the third quarter, keeping the Huskies in the game just as the Loggers were beginning to take control.
The senior standout scored seven of Fortuna’s nine points for the quarter and assisted on the other basket by Morgan Murray.
Check out Carroll’s third-quarter heroics here — with assists from McKenzie Emmons and Gabby Stephens — as well as a dramatic last-minute steal by junior guard Gracie Betts that helped seal the win, and the celebrations by the Fortuna bench.
It was an impressive win for the Fortuna girls, who improved to 2-0 in the Big 5 and 16-1 overall.
