VOTING HAS NOW CLOSED

By Ray Hamill — It’s time to vote North Coast sports fans, for your end of year sports awards, including local athletes of the year, as well as a coach of the year and team of the year.

And what a pool of candidates to choose from in a year that was full of memorable achievements in numerous sports by numerous local teams and athletes.

Voting for all four categories will run through the end of the year, with the winners being announced on New Year’s Eve, along with the first annual Humboldt Sports Sportsperson of the Year. as well as our choices for athletes, teams and coaches of the year.

COACH OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS 

Ryan Bisio —What a difference maker for CR men’s basketball.

Dale Cash —Still coaching youth football, is there any North Coast coach who has had a bigger influence locally over the past five decades?

Matt Tomlin —A two-time state champion in football and also one of the best baseball coaches on the North Coast.

Nick White —A state championship appearance in his first season in charge will be difficult to top.

Daniel Holmes —With seven straight league titles and three NCS crowns in four years, Holmes has built a soccer dynasty in Fortuna.

Kathleen Lynch —The long-time head coach returned to the sidelines to lead the Fortuna girls to a first-ever league title in soccer.

Mark Gardner —Led St. Bernard’s to the final four of state play in girls basketball.

James Washington —A local coaching legend continues to get the best out of his athletes in XC and track and field.

Scott St. John —A fantastic and memorable spring at Mack High, followed by another big summer with the B52s.

Troy Ghisetti —Now a two-time NCS champion, and how many local coaches can say that?

Mike Benbow —Continues to get the absolute most out of his players year after year.

Michelle Bento-Jackson —Has built a consistent contender at HSU. Is there a better basketball coach on the North Coast?
