The Eureka Loggers improved to 3-1 on the season with a big comeback against a previously undefeated Maria Carrillo team to open play at the Piner basketball tournament on Thursday.
Trailing by six with 90 seconds remaining, the Eureka girls scored seven unanswered points to pull out a 52-51 win.
Sophia Chalmers continued her very impressive start to the season with a team-high 15 points in the win.
And more importantly, the senior guard scored four of the final seven points to key the win, including scoring the winning basket after driving to the hoop for a layup with 20 seconds remaining.
Carly Boynton added 12 points in the win, while freshman Claire Maples also continued to impress early in her varsity career with seven points, including a huge 3-pointer with a minute remaining.
Kellina Pratton and Malia Guillbert each finished with six points.
The Loggers will continue tournament play against Petaluma on Friday.

McKinleyville 62, Foothill 65
The Panthers and Cougars got the Arcata girls tournament off to an entertaining start on Thursday evening, with the game going down to the wire after the Mack girls overcame an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit.
Senior Hailee Henry tied the game for the Panthers with just 5.6 seconds remaining, but the Cougars edged out the victory with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer.
Rayn Tripp had a good game for McKinleyville, finishing with a team-high 16 points, while Victoria Claros had 11 points and Rian Heenan 10.
The Panthers, who dropped to 0-2 on the young season, hit just 23 of 39 free throws.

St. Bernard’s 64, Drew 12
The Crusaders opened play at the Marin Academy tournament with a very one-sided win on Thursday night.
Freshman Saulele Tanuvasa continued her fast start to her high school career with a game-high 15 points, with several of her teammates also posting big nights.
Josie Peterson added 14 points and Marayah Tomlinson 10, as the Crusaders improved to 2-0 on the season.
Mackenzie Finck added seven points and Verissa Moon six.
Drew managed just six points through the opening three quarters.
St. Bernard’s will continue tournament play against Sonoma Academy on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
