By Ray Hamill — Arcata senior Maya Mircetich has been named Big 5 MVP in volleyball after leading the Tigers to an undefeated league campaign in 2019.
Mircetich joins five of her teammates as all-league selections, including three of them — Belle Peterman, Lilli Bowman and Lola Renteria — on the all-league first team.
In the Little 5, St. Bernard’s freshman Lele Tanavasu was named MVP after taking the league by storm this season.
Tanavasu was instrumental in the Crusaders’ perfect 8-0 league run and is joined on the all-league first team by teammates Josie Peterson, Mckenzie Finck and Annabelle Sligh.
Hoopa’s Estelle Colegrove and Jasmine Kinney were each also named all-league in the Little 4, as were Ferndale’s Brianna Brazil and Alexandra Puga, South Fork’s Lily Carr, and Southern Trinity’s Heather Tidd.
In the Big 5, McKinleyville pushed the Tigers all the way to the final game in the race for the championship and were led by Hailee Henry and Lexi White, each of whom received all-league first-team honors.
Fortuna’s Mckenzie Emmons and Renee Martz each also were named all-league, as was Del Norte’s Renni Loftin and Eureka’s Bailey Giovanoli.
Fresh off their league championship, Arcata’s Avery Thornburgh and Mekaynea Solia each received an all-league honorable mention.
So too did McKinleyville sisters and teammates Rian Heenan and Cameron Heenan, as well as Fortuna’s Zoe Zerlang and Kenzie Hall, Del Norte’s Caroline Hamm and Eureka’s Madison Broese, Cambelle Suchanek and Bella Vigil.
In the Little 4, St. Bernard’s Pule Fonoti and Courteney Goodman each also received an all-league honorable mention, as did Hoopa’s Savannah Ray, Beyonce Bussell and Naschewen Hunsucker.
Ferndale’s Kayla Albee and Jordan Langholtz were both named honorable mention as well, as were South Fork’s Jade Johns, Olivia Ward and Samantha Hall and Southern Trinity’s Jocelyn More.
