By Ray Hamill — Sarah Killfoil was involved in both of Fortuna’s goals against Eureka on Saturday, as the Huskies tied the Loggers in a pivotal H-DNL showdown.
Fortuna has four league games remaining, including crucial showdowns against both Arcata and Eureka, two games that will likely decide the fate of this year’s championship.
For now, however, the Huskies remain undefeated in league play, and are 7-0-1 after Saturday’s 2-2 tie.
And Killfoil, the Huskies’ free kick specialist, has been a big part of that, playing a role in each of Fortuna’s goals, which both came from free kicks.
The first she sent directly into the net with a wonderfully placed shot to the near post of Eureka goalie Kyra Watkins late in the first half.
The second Fortuna goal came late in the game just minutes after Klayre Barres had given the Loggers a 2-1 lead with a well-placed shot of her own.
Killfoil’s free kick sailed into the box and was slotted home by teammate Kallia Yang, who was the first to pounce on the loose ball.
“Sarah Killfoil is just that good when it comes to free kicks,” Eureka head coach Tommy Learmouth said of the free kick specialist. “She put (her team) in position to tie the game twice.”
