By Ray Hamill — The Fortuna Huskies will look to get back on track when they travel to Del Norte on Friday night to face a tough Warriors team.
The Huskies, who are coming off a bye, dropped to 1-3 on the season after a 13-7 loss to Ferndale in the annual Milk Can rivalry game two weeks ago.
A young Fortuna team has been making some steady progress, but is likely to have its hands full in the tough confines of Crescent City against a physical Warriors team that is 4-1 on the season.
It won’t help matters that the Warriors will be eager to get back on track themselves after a first loss at Mazama last weekend.
Key to the Huskies’ chances will be the play of junior leader Levi Nyberg, who continues to run the ball well.
Nyberg scored the Huskies’ only touchdown of the game against the Cats, after setting it up on a big gain on the previous play.
For the season, Nyberg has a team-leading 459 yards rushing at a 5.7 average, while finding the end zone four times and accounting for half of his team’s rushing TDs.
Friday night’s game is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on 95.1 Mix FM.
