By Ray Hamill — Anyone who has seen him play won’t be surprised to know Chase “Biscuit” Steubing is among the North Coast Section leaders this season.

The Eureka junior, one of just a handful of returning players from a year ago, has been outstanding through the first half of the season and seemingly everywhere on the field.

Particularly on defense, where the Loggers defensive end/linebacker is second in the section in tackles, according to MaxPreps.

Steubing, who has 64 tackles in five games, is just one off the NCS lead.

He is one of several H-DNL players who are among the section statistical leaders.

St. Bernard’s Eli Moon

St. Bernard’s quarterback Will Omey continues to lead the NCS in total yards (1,962), almost 200 more than the second best, and is second best in the entire state.

His teammate Lane Thrap also leads the NCS in receiving yards (659) despite missing almost the entire game at Ferndale on Saturday, and is third in the NCS in touchdowns (13).

Two other St. Bernard’s players are also among the section leaders.

Justin Hagler, who is already receiving Division-I offers, is fifth in the NCS in tackles (57), while Eli Moon is seventh in sacks with five.

Eureka quarterbackTrevor Bell is also enjoying a standout season and is fourth in the section in total yards with 1,359, while his teammate, receiverJosiah Graham, is 13th in receiving yards with 408.

Del Norte running back Kobe Mitchell is also among the TD leaders in the section, where is tied for 10th best with eight.

Not every team’s stats are recorded on MaxPreps.

  1. Guess stats don’t exist for soccer or volleyball or golf or cross-country… it’s the way high schools roll to discriminate against all sports not football or basketball…
