A young South Fork Cubs football team is slowly getting healthy again and building some momentum.
On Friday night, the Cubs got their first win of the season, getting the better of Round Valley 56-6 in Miranda and improving to 1-1.
Junior Alex Harding had a huge game for the home team, rushing 17 times for 157 yards and four touchdowns, while also returning a punt for a TD and passing for two more.
His freshman brother John Harding also continued his impressive start to the season with another 50-plus yards on the ground and a touchdown reception.
Crue Contreras added three catches for 60 yards and a TD.
But it was the play of the team’s D-line that set the tempo, as the Cubs continue to battle injuries and were forced to shuffle some people around.
“We made a few mistakes, but we had some people playing different positions because of injury,” head coach Karl Terrell said. “But all in all, I think the defensive line set the tone and made it easier on our secondary.”
Sophomore Zech Wilks had a big game along the line, while linebacker Ray Gotcher came up with several big tackles.
Terrell was missing six players due to injury but is expecting three back in time for next week.
The Cubs will travel to play Laytonville next weekend.
